Gully Boy is a Bollywood Hindi-language musical-drama film that was premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival on 9th February 2019 and released theatrically all over India on 15th February 2019. Directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced under the production banners of Tiger Baby Films and Excel Entertainment Productions, the film stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The film is inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers Divine and Naezy and follows the story of an aspiring street rapper from the Dharavi slums of Mumbai.
Gully Boy was selected as the Indian entry for ‘Best International Feature Film’ at the 92nd Academy Awards but didn’t get any nomination. Collecting over Rs 238 crore throughout the world, Gully Boy became the eighth-highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2019. The movie became available on Amazon Prime Video from 16th April 2019.

Gully Boy Story
Murad Ahmed (Ranveer Singh) is a final year college student who lives in a dilapidated room in the Dharavi slums of Mumbai. Much to the vexation of the family, his abusive father brings home a second wife who is not much older than Murad. The only thing good in the life of Murad is his friends and girlfriend Safeena (Alia Bhatt). Murad has an inner passion for rap music and every so often scribbles down his emotions and frustration onto paper. His life takes a dramatic turn when his potential is discovered by a rapper named Shrikant aka MC Sher (Siddhant Chaturvedi) and they kick-start a rapper team. As time pass by, Murad explores the rapper inside him with the help of MC Sher and a Berklee College music Sky (Kalki Koechlin) and becomes a ‘Gully Boy’.
With Gully Boy, Zoya Akhtar brings out the horrors of poverty, crime, and domestic abuse.
