Dil Bechara wants us to believe in the idea of enjoying now and live an eternity in the allotted time we have on earth as mortal beings, the movie like it’s Hollywood brethren ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ which is in turn made on a book. The movie teaches how Manny and Kizie are coping with an impending termination of their love and lives with the terminal illness by loving each other now. Sharing time with each other, fulfilling that long-held dream by visiting Paris now, trying to live an eternity in the few moments spent together, just like Love of God in Sufism, romantic love is seen as a way of coping with the trials and tribulations of life in cinema and the happy go luck Manny who has conquered his own illness and learned to be happy, is teaching that to the character of Kizie, who has turned bitter with the illness and wouldn’t want a boyfriend or even entertain someone of the possible idea.
In turn, he is teaching us the viewers that you don’t have to worry so much about your life. As dialogue ‘exams Ka result kya Hoga, careers mai tarakee kab hogi and Beti ki Shaadi and Karcha Kaise Hoga’ and all the anxieties and worries we have, but to live now and breath and laugh as most things will sort themselves and most fears won’t even come true that we worry sick about.
Dil Bechara Movie Review
Dil Bechara exists at the convergence of reality and fiction. The wonderful acting by both Late Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi gives this film a lot of heart which tides over the not-so-great plotting and execution. The ominous spectre of death looms large over the film, and nowhere is it more present and potent than in a key sequence in the film’s latter half.
Stepping outside its meta-relevance, Dil Bechara is a competently put together film. It is noticeably well-shot. Sushant at every point added more life to characters. His endeavour to make kizie happy and to fulfil her dreams, to make her smile.
Dil Bechara’s cast takes the entire film on their shoulders and they do a splendid job. Late Sushanth Singh Rajput manages to light up the screen with his joyful performance and is the type of character who you’ll keep rooting for no matter how bad things get. Sanjana, on the other hand, brings a lot of depth into the already emotional script and gives a performance that’ll make you wanting for more.
The biggest highlight of this movie is its crisp editing. Whenever you deal with some sensitive subject, it is important that editing should be properly done otherwise you tend to lose interest in the movie and it eventually becomes boring.
Yet, the performances of the leads and the supporting cast, music by AR Rahman, the romance and the locations make Dil Bechara a must-watch. It’s really tough for a remake to match the level of the original, but this movie has everything that Bollywood has been missing for quite some time. Give it a watch and you’ll end up with a tear on your cheek and a smile on your face.
Overall the film is all about the uncertainty of life and how to live it to the fullest. It celebrates life and depicts how a leap of faith can move mountains.
